Des Larmes is a song from Mylène Farmer’s eleventh studio album, Désobéissance (2018). It is the fourth and last single extracted.
In my opinion, its very chill, loungy and almost Motown/funk kind of a song. Different, with the American touch that seems to be adopted by Mylene very well since the 90s. In short – I LOVE it!

According to LP: “We met in Paris at the beginning of 2017, I think. We talked about working together and we already had a song in English (Des larmes). She adapted it with different ideas in French. And then we wrote together another song (referring to the N’oubliez pas). ” (LP – iamlp.blog – 07/08/2018 )

Music composed and produced by Mike Del Rio (NYC native known for composing for Christina Aguilera, Selena Gomez and collaborating with LP)
Mixing was done by JUMO for Motif Music (Paris)
There are apparently 3 versions of the song available (although I haven’t noticed much of a difference, you?)

- Album version (2018)
- Edit radio (2019)
- Live 2019
March 19, 2019 Mona FM radio, Nostalgie and Hashtag NP announces Mylène’s “new title” on social networks to be broadcasted the next morning at 6 am (haha! Nice touch!)
So anticipation was growing like a snowball. Teasing and peekaboo-ing never hurt, right?

Pre-orders opened of the single (a 45 rpm and a CD single) to be released on June 7th 2019 Release (the day of Mylène’s first concert at Paris La Défense Arena). Brilliant marketing as always! Who does she have by her side, I wonder! The more I dive in, the more I realize what an exceptional business approach is underneath Mylene’s success!

Des larmes becomes Mylène’s 20th(!!) number 1 and one of the top singles in France (physical sales and downloads without streaming) and it is also the single from the album Désobéissance which benefited from the best radio broadcasts and the television clip.

The gala.fr site reveals that the music video for the song was shot in mid-April with the production of Marcel Hartmann. We learn that the black and white clip features a wolf (its Mylene’s very own dog by the way. You can see him in her documentary from Amazon, in many pictures including a cover for the Désobéissance, as well briefly in the Rolling Stone video. Also an actor Stanley Weber engages with Mylène in “choreographed embraces of rare sensuality” according to this site. A photo of Claude Gassian’s shooting is also posted online. May 10, 2019 First broadcast of the clip Des larmes (TV + internet).

I love how Mylene’s dog (her name is Liloup, she is a Swiss shepherd) turns into a hot stud (in the fashion of a fairytale as a frog turns into a prince charming). And frankly, I can’t decide who is more handsome in the clip: the dog or the guy 😊 Of course nowadays seeing Liloup makes us all tear up a bit as she went over the rainbow last July.

The clip is a bit slow Mo and with the romantic (sensual as mentioned above) flair. Slight flashback to the Regrets as far as the duet in black and white goes but with the different feel all together.

No televised performance on the song Des larmes.
Reviews are actually pretty favorable for a change. “Besides the duo N’oublie pas, the American singer LP has co-composed with her friend Mike Del Rio Des larmes. Mylène Farmer explores her funk fiber to discuss the loneliness that sometimes assails her in her “glass prison” “. “Come on, I’m marrying / My soul mate (I pray she does!!) / It’s my walkabout”. An astonishing register that she had already approached in Interstellaires with C’est pas moi , and which shatters the persistent image of the romantic, hazy and tortured woman with whom she remains eternally associated. ” (Pure Charts)
“Tears borrows a languid funk vein” (rfi.fr )

QUIZ: Any ideas how many times Mylene refers to Baudelaire in the album Désobéissance? And beyond? Maybe I should count…maybe should you? Pleae comments on the page

my poetry inspired by the song
I will quietly come You might not even hear me But you’ll sense me behind As I’ll listen you’re breathing More! – I’ll beg you – drink more! More! Inhale me please deeper Take me in like a pill I will be your painkiller Tight me up like a strap Make it tighter, my darling, so I won’t fly away feeling under-desired There is no any space Left in me for my fears Let us go to the place Where no one ‘ll be near us Where we are – you and I – both alive… I am craving for yours Hands all over my body Take whatever you want make me your Aphrodite There is no heart has left In me… - YOU took it over Hold it live in your hand - Does it make you feel warmer? Let us go to the place Where no one will be near us Where we are – you and I – so alive!

Et dans ma prison de verre
Moi je ne sais plus comment faire
J’peux me bander comme personne
Les yeux de peur qu’on m’abandonne
Et puis là, pour les sentiments
Fais sourde oreille aux compliments
J’me sens seule, là, allez, je m’épouse
Fais corps avec mon lit, loving you
Fais corps avec mon lit, loving you
Sillonnent, sillonnent, sillonnent
Des larmes, des larmes, des larmes, à quoi
À quoi bon vivre si t’es pas là?
Je m’isole, m’isole, m’isole
And in my glass prison
I don’t know what to do anymore
I can bend like nobody else
I’ve got to get out of here,
And then, for the feelings
I’m not sure what to do,
I’m lonely now, come on, I’m getting married
My soul mate, it’s my bathhouse
It’s the end when you’re in the tree box
Get up every morning
The worm is in the apple, I’ve got the jitters everything knocks me out
Diluvian, the abyss of Baudelaire, I read everything
It’s done, who cares, it’s my life
Be one with my bed, loving you
You are where, where, where?
Tears, tears, tears, tears
Of sorrow, of joy, on my cheeks, there
Crisscross, crisscross, crisscross
Tears, tears, tears, what for
What’s the point of living if you’re not there?
I isolate myself, isolate myself, isolate myself
And in my glass prison
When I don’t know what to do
I embrace life like nobody else
Even God for fear he’ll abandon me
But here’s the thing about feelings
If I’m gonna be around much longer
I’m lonely now, a flight to Toulouse
To the Sacred Heart for a walk in the park
It’s the end when you’re in the tree box
Get up every morning
The worm is in the apple, I’ve got stage fright everything knocks me out
A refrain, Baudelaire’s abyss, it’s a blues
It’s done, who cares, it’s my life
Be one with my bed, loving you
You are where, where, where?
Tears, tears, tears, tears
Of sorrow, of joy, on my cheeks, there
Crisscross, crisscross, crisscross
Tears, tears, tears, what for
What’s the point of living if you’re not there?
I isolate myself, isolate myself, isolate myself
Tears, tears, tears, tears
Of sorrow, of joy, on my cheeks, there
Tears, tears, tears, tears
Tears, tears, tears, what for
What’s the point of living if you’re not there?
I isolate myself, isolate myself, isolate myself
