N’oublie pas (Don’t forget) is a song # 4- in duet with LP – from Mylène Farmer’s eleventh studio album, Désobéissance on 28 September 2018. It is the second single extracted.

Off the bet, you are here for a surprise, just as I am…

Did you know there is a movie called Disobedience which came out in 2017.

Interesting continuation of the N’oublie pas theme, don’t you think? I wonder if Mylene at all seen the film? And if so, was it an intentional choice for the album title?…more questions than answers…story of our life as a fan of Mylene’s, isn’t it? 😊

The lyrics of the song N’oublie pas were written by Mylène Farmer for the French part, and by LP for the English part. The music was composed by LP, Nate Campany and Mike Del Rio.

Mylène attended the LP concert at the Café de la danse in Paris on September 20, 2016. The two singers met (at Mylène’s wish) in a Parisian hotel in early 2017. GO Mylene!

She always pursues project and people she finds engaging: remember how she perused Jean-Louis Murat, Moby, Sting, Gary Jules etc

“I went to see her on stage, and I discovered this artist whom I knew a little bit, I knew, like everyone else, this famous title which has been around the world, Lost on you, and I found her phenomenal voice, obviously, but even more so her personality. I find her unique. I haven’t met another artist like her. She has an incredible charisma, she is authentic, she is touching, and then this voice that is incredible. ” (Mylène Farmer – Alouette – 12/23/2018)

Mylène then proposed to LP to compose songs for her and suggested a duet. The two artists have met several times in London to work together.

If we refer to the article in the magazine “Gala” published on June 20, 2018 and produced on the set of the video for this song, the lyrics of N’oublie pas were written by Mylène before the music, which is very unusual for her, since she has a habit of writing the lyrics of the songs from the melodies: “The red angel already has the lyrics. LP puts it to music and adapts its vocal lines in English.”

LP specified that this text by Mylène would be very autobiographical.

“I think it’s about the loss of a member of her family, her brother it seems to me (one of Mylène’s brothers died accidentally in 1996; Mylène also lost her mother in July 2016, so shortly before the writing of these lyrics, editor’s note). ” (LP – 07/08/2018)

LP indicated in an interview that on the two tracks she composed (with Mike Del Rio) for the album Désobéissance, N’oublie pas is the second on which she worked.

” We already had a song in English (Des larmes, editor’s note). She adapted it with different ideas in French. And then we wrote another song together for her album for which we started from scratch, and yes, this is how N’oublie pas took shape very slowly.” (LP – 07/08/2018)

On May 30, 2018, in a document addressed to the media and indicating the releases of singles planned for the month of June, Sony Music indicates for the date of June 22: Mylène Farmer featuring “surprise”. She like those June surprises! 😊

Here is what LP said about working with Mylene:

No TV advertisement for the single N’oublie pas but broadcast of extracts from the clip in the advertisements for the album Désobéissance.

The press on the single N’oublie pas:

N’OUBLIE PAS, elegant duet with the American singer LP – author of the hit Lost On You two years ago years – which was also first in sales when it was released in June “. (leparisien.fr – 09/26/2018)

“The Duo N’oublie pas with the American singer LP is working at full speed ” (rfi.fr – 09/28/2018)

Sentimentale and N’oublie pas are little europop hits that will make the heyday of RFM’s playlists but that we are no longer ashamed to assume. ” (Clubcorbeille.com – 09/28/2018)

“We find N’OUBLIE PAS, rejection of bile, where each note tightens any attempt at good will. The tone of voice of LP is a suffering which grazes the ears and does not agree with the voice and the universe of the interpreter of The Other. ” (Ait-alire.com – 09/28/2018)

“The singles are a perfect starting point. Rolling Stone and N’OUBLIE PAS, a duet with the brilliant LP, topped the charts in France with good reason. The former finds Mylène is pure-pop mode, serving breathy vocals and instantly catchy “la la las” over Feder’s house beats. Mike Del Rio (one half of pop duo POWERS) takes the reigns for N’oublie pas and it stands out as one of the album’s few mid-tempo moments. The French hitmaker’s voice combines effortlessly with LP’s and that chorus is truly a thing of beauty. ” (Idolator.com – 02/10/2018)

Mylene Farmer N'OUBLIE PAS (WITH LP)

“LP’s participation also breathes a welcome touch of freshness into its universe. In addition to the duo N’oublie pas, accompanied by a splendid clip signed Laurent Boutonnat, the American singer co-composed with her friend Mike Del Rio (Lost On You ) the invigorating Des larmes . ” (Pure Charts – 03/10/2018

“Less convincing are the two collaborations with singer Laura Pergolizzi, including a duet on N’oublie pas. ” (Lemonde.fr – 12 / 10/2018)

What do you all think? Mylene didn’t choose the song for her 2019 live performances. Not sure because of LP is not being available to join or for some other reasons. The song was another successful collaboration. Its her very rare one with another female singer with the exception of Line Renaud which clearly had more to do with respect and admiration for Line than commercial interests.

Mylene Farmer N'OUBLIE PAS (WITH LP)

For me personally, I have split feelings on this one. I do love Mylene in it and a clip is appropriate for the occasion although not the same Boutonnat of course. As far as how well they go together with LP, I am frankly not sure…LP is a unique artist with her own very unique style and taste. Other than being openly gay and bringing a great deal of intrigue to the long speculating Mylene’s audience by skillfully adding a fuel to the “Is she or isn’t she..?” fire I can’t really see much of a creative achievement here…do you?

Although I say “who cares” to all those sexual preferences speculations, not everyone clearly feels the same. I am sure lesbian / gay community rejoiced and not only in France and the rest of the fans and just wider audience probably couldn’t help but wonder: “what exactly didn’t Mylene forget?”

One thing for certain – Mylene is a genius and knows exactly how to seduce the public – bravo!

I hope there is a personal sentimental value to her in this song and the lyrics. We know her well enough to know there would not be a song otherwise…and whenever this sweet melancholy takes her in space and time, lets follow her with an open heart as we always do. I trust her, I know she will bring me (again!) closer to my Self and my, perhaps, a bit childish and lost illusions, to my innocence, left behind, but never really lost. I do have someone to go back to in my sweet memories and I hope so do you…

N’oublie pas has never been sung in concert. But maybe should? NEVEMORE perhaps?

REACTIONS

There were of course many songs called “N’oubliez pas” and its variations…although if you google it, you will see Mylene and LP on the top 😊

One more song however I felt like worthy mentioning with (almost) same title is by Pablo Alborán – Ne m’oublie pas.. Its just such a beautiful song by such a talented artist plus he is himself indecently handsome 😊

MY POETRY INSPIRED BY THE SONG

What does it take:
To turn from strangers to lovers –
miles?
centuries?
galaxies?
blushing secrets?
burning nights?
childhood fears?
teenage rhymes?
could you cover it all?
just to reach and reopen the door
to my eyes
can you jump high enough over the moonlight
to soothe my overly-naïve illusions
so one day that someone
will break the circle
making this life only one possible way
from strangers to lovers
with no turning back
ever again…

LYRICS WITH TRANSLATION

Là, dégoutée de ce monde
Sous la lampe un dernier songe
J'entends ta voix
Malgré tout ça
Et tes mots
Respecter l’autre
Cause in all the worlds I come upon
I never saw another one
That sparkled like your diamond in
The sun

La chambre même est sans pitié

Le paradis tombe à mes pieds
Pourtant
We know, we know
Ta voix
Dit jamais

N'oublie pas
Conduite par une étoile
Jamais
N'oublie pas
I promise where you are

Un point dans l'univers
It's a love it's everywhere
Jamais
N'oublie pas
C'est moi
Oh Oh Oh
Ouh Ouh Ouh

Un point dans l'univers
It's a love it's everywhere
Jamais
N'oublie pas
No No
Oh Oh Oh

Sous terre il y a le silence
Ma mémoire qui rentre tard
Je pense à toi
Don’t you think twice
Been lost
But now I finally know
Et tous ces signes que tu envoies
Qui me chavirent à chaque fois
With déjà vu we'll
Rearrange the stars

And even on a silent sea
Your constellation carries me
Along
You know
Mais l'horizon
Dit jamais

Oh Oh Oh Oh
We feel it in our bones
Oh Oh Oh Oh
We feel it in our bones
Oh Oh Oh Oh
We feel it in our bones
Jamais
N'oublie pas
C'est moi
You know
Oh Oh
There, disgusted with this world
Under the lamp a last dream
I hear your voice
In spite of all this
And your words
To respect the other
Cause in all the worlds I come upon
I never saw another one
That sparkled like your diamond in
The sun

The very room is merciless

Heaven falls at my feet
Yet
We know, we know
Your voice
Never says

Don't forget
Led by a star
Never
Don't forget
I promise where you are

A point in the universe
It's a love it's everywhere
Never
Don't forget
It's me
Oh Oh Oh
Ooh Ooh Ooh

A point in the universe
It's a love it's everywhere
Never
Don't forget
No No
Oh Oh Oh

Under the ground there's silence
My memory coming in late
I think of you
Don't you think twice
Been lost
But now I finally know
And all these signs you send
That turn me upside down every time
With déjà vu we'll
Rearrange the stars

And even on a silent sea
Your constellation carries me
Along
You know
But the horizon
Never says

Oh Oh Oh Oh
We feel it in our bones
Oh Oh Oh Oh
We feel it in our bones
Oh Oh Oh Oh
We feel it in our bones
Never
Don't forget
This is me
You know
Oh Oh
