LA RONDE TRISTE

La ronde triste is a song that we find on Face B of the single Sans contrefaçon (1987) then on the album Ainsi soit je…released in April 1988.

Music, production, arrangements and direction: Laurent Boutonnat. The lyrics of La ronde triste were written by Mylène Farmer. And in English! Go, Mylene! I know the lyrics are not extremely complex, but they work so well with the melody and the entire production. So impressive really! It’s still 80s…

“The musicality of the English language lends itself so well to the song. Yet I bless the gods who made me of French stock. ” (Mylène Farmer – “L’Est Républicain” – 10/30/1988) Well, the gods blessed our dearest Mylene with many gifts! Lucky us we have the privilege to witness them…

Mylene does come back to English often ever since. Sometimes its phrases, sometimes just a word or two like “I’m in a bad bad mood” from Rolling Stone or “Get up, girl” or “Beyond my control” or taking an entire song like “I want you to want me” song.

Translated version of her songs didn’t gain any traction. There were numerous attempts like “My mom is wrong” or “My souls is slashed” and even “Libertine” in English – “Bag girl”

🙂 but until Moby and Seal and Sting, not much was happening.

And even after the popularity was localized. I can see how it could be frustrating for Mylene. In my opinion, it is not even due to the language barrier it is due to the different mentality. There is so much about Mylene is not a mainstream.

Thankfully ,to me she is exactly the artist I needed for my soul and for my personal journey In life…I walked with her through different languages, decades and continents….but enough about me.

There was a televised performance of the song in 1987:

lyrics

Please let me dream
Let me scream
I feel sad
Please let me dream
Let me scream
Let me die

I love you
I love you
I do love you
I love you
I love you
I do love you

"Don't cry!"

Please let me dream
Let me scream
I feel sad

"Don't cry!"

Please let me dream
Let me scream
Let me die

"Don't cry!"

I love you
I love you
I do love you
I love you
I love you
I do love you

"Don't cry"...
