DIABOLIQUE MON ANGE

Diabolique mon ange is a song from Mylène Farmer’s eighth studio album, Bleu Noir (2010).

It was chosen to become the first (and only) single taken from the 2013 live album Timeless .

I was not thinking at all connecting this song to the previous one Sans Logique, but this song playing in my head literally woke me up – I told you, the songs do choose me!

And – wow – now I totally see the connection…its an evolution from one to another as it deepens and as the suffering takes much more sophisticated turn.

What a gorgeous song! It runs so powerfully in the lower than usually register as it touches so deeply!!! I swear, my heart is flickering inside when I hear it, it is just divine….a love song out of this world.

Mylene is so mature and delivers an incredible “chanson” in the best of its term. It’s modern, it has tons of cool sounds, electronic, guitar, fully developed keys and rhythms. Its not Boutonnat and I kinda like that! Its different, it gives us a glimpse into a different layer of Mylene…And I, ladies and gentlemen, love this intensity! The music was composed by Darius Keeler. He is a founder and main songwriter of the British band Archive. Mylene works with him again for her upcoming album (#12). I am excited to see what will come out of this collaboration.

Of course, it is again slightly about the duality: “Dibolique” and “Mon ange” in one line…it’s again about the politically incorrect (“wrong”) kind of loving…which of course picks our interest: “What kind of loving is she referring to?” Perhaps, we will never know but what we do know is that the Love overrides all the other aspects of the “lover” even the “diabolic” ones… There are more questions than answers, there are more uncertainties in the feelings expressed than the description of the actual events…It’s once more internalized and come out like a cry of the Soul. In short, it is our Mylene…we love her for all this unspoken and mysterious. She is our Angel. Always.

One thing seems to be for certain is an influence of Pierre Reverdy poetry on the lyrics of the song written of course by Mylene herself. There is a deep connection with Reverdy which expresses itself in many songs’ lyrics. I have to admit the surrealistic poetry has always been my special attraction. I do write in the similar manner – see the poetry in the end of the chapter although in English. French is not yet there…but who knows? Perhaps one day …

Pierre Reverdy writes in “The Wind and the Spirit”: “It is an astonishing chimera. The head, higher than this floor, is placed between the two iron wires and wedges and stands; nothing moves.” and in “The horns of the wind”: “I dedicate my death to you, stick your eye to the lock of this room, empty and dismal as a drama, you will know the man who lives there. The walls have kept his imprint. ” By the was “horns” of the bet takes me to Sans Logique? You? So many mental triggers by now…

DIABOLIQUE MON ANGE

While we can read in the lyrics of the song: “Only dreams remain / Astonishing chimera / Who keeps his mark / Has fled in his embrace”.

Reading these extracts from the poem “Hotels”: “I am going to pass in front of the enemy, formidable more than the rain, more than the cold. He sleeps and my hand trembles”, “but when will come, finally, the deliverance and the quiet rest? ” and “There are only dreams left” are probably at the origin of part of the song’s text: “Quiet rest / Useless hour / In this room / The trembling hand / Only dreams remain / Astonishing chimera”.

The poems “Forced March” and “Traits et figures” respectively propose these words: “Never desirable, this soul has led you where you are better” and “In my head lines, nothing but lines; if I could put there a little order only “when Mylène writes for her part:” Let’s go elsewhere if you want / Take me where you are better “or” “In my head a mess / Put some order back”.

Reviews:

“In the absence of a real revolution, Mylene Farmer new collaborators still offer her a little something new. Starting with Archive. The British duo envelops the Frenchwoman in these long, soaring symphonies in the very successful Leila , Diabolique mon ange and especially Light me up. “. ( Le Parisien – 12/06/2010 ) “By wrapping Mylène Farmer’s haunting voice with trip-hop layers, Archive brings the most interesting collaboration.” (Nord Eclair – 12/06/2010)

“Archive signs some stormy titles among the strongest In September 2011, Mylène Farmer will be 50 years old. In Diabolique mon ange , a kind of remix of L’Horloge , it advances between two “flik flak” and other “tic et tac”. “Time I cursed your body”. An echo to “Remember that time is an avid player” (Baudelaire)? ”  Lexpress.fr – 07/12/2010)

“There remain the three achievements with Archive. Not the most successful, but the most breaking with the Farmer style. We will stop in particular on Diabolique mon ange, all in crackles and welts of machines on which floats the voice of the singer. The texts have set aside the most Gothic, mysterious aspects generally associated with the singer. Little by little you get used to this way of renewal. ” (Le monde – 12/16/2010)

Leila (homage to the deceased daughter of the Shah of Iran) melancholy or Diabolique my angel and the catchy rhythm of her refrains. ” (Télé Star – 03/01/2011)

“The compositions of the Archive are less obvious, more complex to taming … It must be said that they reveal Farmer that we did not know very well: vocals lower than usual, haunting melodies and surprising arrhythmias. We are far from the alternation of hits for dancefloors / acoustic ballads so dear to Boutonnat. ” (What Hifi – January 2011)

One thing totally stroke me: doesn’t Mylene here looks just like Michèle Mercier in Angelique  films. I adored them when I was a kid! It was my first reason to fall in love with everything French. Besides Michele Mercier to me was always the MOST beautiful woman I have ever seen. Sorry, Michele, I’ve changed my mind – now it is Mylene!

MY POETRY INSPIRED BY THE SONG

Emptiness grows
Emptiness clings
To the evaporating walls
Of the hopes and memories
Of my stronger Self.

Bigger and wider,
Deeper and wiser,
The caliber of blankness.
No bonds, no promises,
No stamps, no marks,
Of my better Self.

Emptiness sees better
From the other side
Of the substance.
Emptiness grows faster
On the soil of
Regrets and doubts
Of my Inner Self

lyrics with translation

Repos tranquille, heure inutile
Dans cette chambre
La main qui tremble
Ne restent que les rêves
Étonnante chimère
Qui garde son empreinte
A fuit dans son étreinte
Allons ailleurs si tu veux
Conduis moi où tu es mieux
Et plus jamais la même
Le vent fait sourde oreille

Flik flak, diabolique est mon ange
Tic tac, plus rien ne nous dérange
La claque, bien contre lui et tangue
Tic tac, on s’est aimé à s’y méprendre
Flik flak, diabolique est mon ange
Tic tac, plus rien ne me dérange
La claque, suis contre lui et tangue
Et là s’agenouiller et puis s’éprendre

Vent, j’ai souhaité ta mort
Temps, j’ai maudit ton corps
Et plus jamais la même
À tout jamais de celles
Qui entrouvrent fenêtre
Qui parlent et puis se jettent

Flik flak, diabolique est mon ange
Tic tac, plus rien ne nous dérange
La claque, bien contre lui et tangue
Tic tac, on s’est aimé à s’y méprendre
Flik flak, diabolique est mon ange
Tic tac, plus rien ne me dérange
La claque, suis contre lui et tangue
Et là s’agenouiller et puis s’éprendre

Dans ma tête un désordre
Y remettre un peu d’ordre
N’a jamais vu ma fièvre
N’a jamais dit “je t’aime”
Cependant je l’aime
Cependant je l’aime
Cependant je l’aime
Cependant je l’aime

Et plus jamais la même
Le vent fait sourde oreille
N’a jamais vu ma fièvre
N’a jamais dit “je t’aime”
Tic tac, diabolique est mon ange
Tic tac, diabolique est mon ange
Tic tac, diabolique est mon ange
Tic tac, diabolique est mon ange

Quiet rest, useless hour
In this room
The hand that shakes
Only the dreams remain
Astonishing chimera
Which keeps its imprint
Fled in its embrace
Let’s go somewhere else if you want
Lead me where you are better
And never again the same
The wind is deafening
Flik flak, diabolical is my angel
Tick tock, nothing bothers us anymore
The slap, well against it and pitch
Tick tock, we loved each other to bits
Flik flak, diabolic is my angel
Tick tock, nothing bothers me anymore
The slap, I’m against him and pitch
And there kneel and then fall in love
Wind, I wished you dead
Time, I cursed your body
And never again the same
Forever one of those
Who open the window
Who speak and then throw themselves
Flik flak, diabolical is my angel
Tick tock, nothing disturbs us anymore
The slap, well against it and tangue
Tick tock, we loved each other to a fault
Flik flak, diabolic is my angel
Tick tock, nothing bothers me anymore
The slap, I’m against him and pitch
And there kneel and then fall in love
In my head a mess
To put some order in it
Never saw my fever
Never said “I love you
But I love him
But I love it
Yet I love it
Yet I love it
And never the same
The wind turns a deaf ear
Never saw my fever
Never said “I love you
Tick tock, evil is my angel
Tick tock, evil is my angel
Tick tock, diabolical is my angel
Tick tock, evil is my angel
