Prière (Prayer) is a song from Mylène Farrmer’s eleventh studio album, Désobéissance (2018).
The words of Prayer were written by Mylène Farmer. Music composed by Feder / Quentin Segaud.

I have no information of what triggered her to write this particular song. I did notice however the theme of a water and the depth which it represents, in particular, the ocean as in something almost like universe, appears to be repetitive in Mylene’s art especially lately. We all recall L’âme dans l’eau (which I will talk about very soon and for the special occasion)

It’s a hiding place for the “croc” as she refers to the character of the song. As so often, nothing else is revealed, so much left unsaid as she opens a small window of her life for us for just a second, for a minute the most and you are trying to pick into and make sense of what you just caught with the short glance…I know in my heart that it is hard to be there for someone who is rather be in “hiding” and whose crocodile skin is protecting their vulnerable substance. It is all you can do to make the stay and not to run off into the “ocean” is just to be there, lovingly, consistently, praying deep inside that some day they’ll feel safe enough to accept your presence and let you into their world…So that’s what I see…Please let me know what you think – comment below on the page. A few of you wrote to me saying that this song is a metaphor for someone who is undergoing a chemo treatment for cancer…I am at loss here…maybe?

“From Feder, we also like Prière , which has the charm of soul hits from Moby and The Avener.” (leparisien.fr)
“The DJ from Nice, revealed in particular by the hits Goodbye and Breathe, extracts the singer from a mechanism that is far too oiled and often shows saving daring: the urban electro-soul of Prière”. (rfi.fr)
“Feder’s leg makes the turn surprising […]. The whole is furiously effective! The tempos are heady, the sounds modern and Mylène finally dares to assume her bass à la Marianne Faithfull in songs less black than usual. We can quote the bewitching Prière”

“On Prière the string arrangements are minimalist to better nourish an overflowing sensuality. Yes, Mylène Farmer is having fun with unfeigned pleasure!” (Pure Charts)
“Feder brings to the singer a fairly minimalist sound in the treatment of keyboards as percussions and the production, with the retained orchestrations. This renewal of musical climates (with the very successful Prayer in the most extreme approach) serves familiar themes. ” (lemonde.fr)

Comment te dire
Ma réalité
Dans mon manteau
L'eau qui a coulé et yey
Comment lui dire
Comment l'épargner
Dans son corps un sick
Un croc s'est caché
Mais je suis là pour toi
Ne plus te laisser
L'envie de sauter dans l'océan
Et je suis là pour toi
J'apprends à lâcher
J'oublierai la vie, une fois dedans
Comment te dire
Ma réalité
Nuit de délires
Tout est chimioté et yey
Comment lui dire
Que l'immensité
Remplit un vide
Le rideau est tombé
Mais je suis là pour toi
Ne plus te laisser
L'envie de sauter dans l'océan
Et je suis là pour toi
J'apprends à lâcher
J'oublierai la vie, une fois dedans
Mais je suis là pour toi
Ne plus te laisser
L'envie de sauter dans l'océan
Et je suis là pour toi
J'apprends à lâcher
J'oublierai la vie, une fois dedans
How to tell you
My reality
In my coat
The water that flowed and yey
How to tell him
How to spare it
In his body a sick
A croc hid
But i am here for you
Don't let you anymore
The urge to jump into the ocean
And i am here for you
I'm learning to let go
I will forget life, once inside
How to tell you
My reality
Night of delirium
Everything is chemo and yey
How to tell him
That the immensity
Fills a void
The curtain has fallen
But i am here for you
Don't let you anymore
The urge to jump into the ocean
And i am here for you
I'm learning to let go
I will forget life, once inside
But i am here for you
Don't let you anymore
The urge to jump into the ocean
And i am here for you
I'm learning to let go
I will forget life, once inside

Je pense qu’elle parle d’une personne qui accompagne jusqu’au bout une personne atteinte d’un cancer…
