Let’s continue our beautiful discussion of Eroticism in Mylene’s work as we just covered in L’amour n’est rien and QI and even Deshabillez-moi

“Sextonik” is the fifth single from Mylene Farmer seventh studio album Point de suture and was released on 31 August 2009. Despite being less successful than Farmer’s previous hit singles from the album, it allowed her to beat her own record for the artist with the most number one hits in France.

To start this Chapter, I want to quote a beautiful reflection by Amy Jo Goddard:

Sexuality is our relationship to our body, to pleasure, to our sensuality and to sex—all manifestations of living in a physical human body and experiencing our humanness to the greatest extent and the most intimate core.

Sexuality is our spirituality in physical form (whoa!! This is how I perceive Mylene’s sexuality for sure! It is Enlightening).

The problem is that so often the spiritual and physical are put at odds with one another when they are actually two sides of the same coin. It does not make a person “more spiritual” to “transcend” the sexual or physical. It makes you out of touch with your humanity.

The opposite is true: if you are powerfully connected to and embracing of your physical body and your sexuality, you are living fully in your humanness and that is as spiritual as it gets.

Sexuality is to spirituality as matter is to non-matter.
Sexuality is to spirituality as sensation is to higher thought.
Sexuality is to spirituality as pleasure is to joy.
Sexuality is to spirituality as the erotic is to purpose.
Sexuality is to spirituality as creativity is to divinity.

To live your life denying your sexuality is cutting off your own life blood. It is obfuscating the very energy you were given in order to create a magnificent life.
Sexuality is not meant to be transcended; it’s meant to be experienced to the depths.
Sexuality is not meant to be denied, it is meant to be acknowledged, loved and explored.
Sexuality is a tool for your own evolution, erotic power is the energy you fuel it with.
What would it mean to get to know your own eroticism such that you would no longer deny it, repress it or abuse it?
Learning to exercise an empowered sexuality is strengthening your spiritual muscles.

Let’s see once more how Mylene choses to experience her Humanness.

Since the release of the album Point de Suture, the song has been mentioned in media, and particularly Public, as its deals with a sexual issue.

As the other two singles — “On est tous des imbéciles” and “L’Histoire d’une fée, c’est…” — there was no music video for Sextonik (and I wonder why?? 😊).

Starting May 2008, Mylene has sold vibrators at her concerts (ahh isn’t it ballsy?!)

The first edition was limited to 1,000 copies and cost 100 euros. (I bet they sell for much higher now!) The object was presented in a black box-shaped coffin with the inscription “Sextonik”; however, the song was not performed on stage. Many websites, newspapers and radio broadcasts talked about the vibrator. Don’t you just love this clever bomb being dropped! Oh! I love this woman! 😊

Big buzz in the media. We no longer count the articles on the net. On ozap.com, the subject arouses quite virulent reactions. Once again, Mylène doesn’t leave you indifferent, whether you like it or not.

For staragora.com, Mylène becomes a “dildo saleswoman”. The telemoustique.be site seems to forget that this object is not intended only for ladies. Purepeople.com doesn’t seem to find this to its liking or very tasteful.

Then at the concerts in Douai (Gayant Expo), St. Petersburg and Moscow, a remix of “Sextonik” by DJ Tomer G was played. The DJ later stated on his own site that his remix was done for a single, thus revealing that “Sextonik” will be the fifth single from the album. On July 2nd 2009, the song was officially announced as the next single and it was revealed that it would be released under three formats: CD single, CD maxi, 7″ maxi. On 7^th of July 2009, a promotional digital version was sent to French stations radios. The first promotional CD was sent a few days later, then a second one on 17 July.

The lyrics of Sextonik were written by Mylène herself of course! The whole album is passionate and unapologetic. And why would it be?

In the humorous note, I am certainly remembering infamous orgasm scene from my favorite movie “When Harry met Sally…”  😊

Concerning the etymology of the word “dildo”, one of the hypotheses refers to the medieval Latin Gaude mihi which means “rejoice me” and from which Mylène could well have been inspired for the text: ” Carved in wood / Rejoice / Play it again “.

However, there is a Russian word “дылда” (pronounces “Dilda”) which means literally “huge”, “enormous”. Usually refers to a male who is very tall and/or big (but perhaps more of the male part?). Just a thought since we are on the topic.
