SENTIMENTALE

Sentimentale is a second song from Mylène Farmer’s eleventh studio album, Désobéissance (2018). It is also a promotional single.

The lyrics of the song Sentimentale were written by Mylène Farmer. Music and production are by Feder and Quentin Segaud.

The text of the song ends with an obvious nod to the song Pourvu qu’elles soient douces. The album Désobéissance also contains other more or less direct references to the album Ainsi Soit Je…

September 20, 2018 at midnight the title Sentimentale is posted on streaming and download sites.

The clip of the song is simultaneously unveiled on the YouTube channel MyleneFarmerVevo

Sentimentale is the third single from the album Désobéissance available after the singles Rolling Stone and N’oublie pas, eight days before the release of this album.

On September 25, 2018 the track Sentimentale is sent to radio stations (without specific cover but that of the album).

Sentimentale has therefore benefited from a specific digital release, a clip, a radio broadcast but no physical support (promotional or commercial). The title is considered a promotional single from the album Désobéissance. 4 December 2020 we have found the song Sentimentale on the best-of album Histoires de.

I hope its Benoit Mylene sees as a God sent to her (along with Liloup, E.T. and other beloved animals through the years). I hope and pray that heavens will send her many years of happy Earthy life with all the joys, inspiration, love, loyalty and freedom that she always craved for). It is only fair, as for me, she is my rock, and my God-sent.

I personally cannot imagine my life journey without her by my side. I love her like the dearest and closest friend who has shared with me the agonies and the ecstasy of life. I love you my dearest Mylene. I love you more than any words can say. I dedicate these humble efforts to honor you and celebrate your unforgettable creations. They have created me as I am now by shaping and influencing my emotions, stimulating my creativity and my freedom of thoughts…regardless how restrictive my circumstances might have been (and indeed they have!) you were my voice, my daring friend who led me to the light even through the darkest night…I know you will be a part of my life till the very last day. I thank for that gift of YOU. In return, I send all my love your way every waken day…

Reviews are finally somewhat fair and reflective of Mylene. Right..only took them 30 something years 😊

  • “Sentimentale , the new single, whose luminous pop ritornello signed Feder recalls the first hits of Mylène Farmer. She also winks at Pourvu qu’elles soient douces in its text.” (Pure Charts)
  • “Under her influence of Feder Mylène Farmer” dares “as she says on Sentimentale .” (Pure Charts)
  • “The rhythm at Mylène Farmer is still as queen as Sentimentale (hint “Dix, onze, doux/Pourvu qu’elle soit douce”) and Disobedience, two catchy songs. ” (rfi.fr)
  • “Less synths, more electro, a strong emotional charge on a good half of the songs (in particular Sentimental”. (lepoint.fr)
  • “Sentimentale and N’oublie pas are little europop hits that will make the heyday of RFM’s playlists but that we are no longer ashamed to assume.” (clubcorbeille.com)
  • “As great as those songs are, my favorites are current single Sentimentale and the stunning title-track. Both throw it back to the ’80s with their serene synths and soaring choruses. They are so chic and so French and so instantly addictive regardless of the language barrier.”) well, she throws a few English phrases as a bone to chew (hahah! No pun intended)

Paris La Défense Arena 2019

Mylène sings Sentimentale during the nine concerts at Paris La Défense Arena from June 07 to 22, 2019.

Arrangements for the stage: Olivier Schultheis. I could not find any official videos but found 2 fans’ videos of the live song

For the 2019 show there were 45 semi-trailers and 1,800 handlers mobilized to set the scene. 150 tons (!!!) of material were hung from the ceiling of the room. The stage had an opening of 80 meters (larger than the one in the Stade de France in 2009). For the first time, a retractable central stage allowing a projection of 40 meters in the pit on certain pieces was used.

The science fiction film Blade Runner directed in 1982 by Ridley Scott starring Harrison Ford was a source of inspiration for the show (as well as a Space Odyssey), in particular for the decor or the scene images that we find during the first song performed on stage by Mylène, Interstellaire.

An influence confirmed by Laszló Bordos – creator of this backdrop – in an interview published in the book Mylène Farmer. Also, an interesting coincidence, the action of this film takes place in future Los Angeles of 2019.

Mylène had never been accompanied by such a large number of dancers on stage (sixteen in total). Two familiar faces with Aziz Baki and Raphael Baptista already present on Timeless 2013. Note that the dancers had all dyed their hair red for these nine concerts. “Pourvu qu’elle soit rouge” I’d say 😊

puppy Liloup

The star of the clip is Liloup. Mylène and Benoît have had a white Swiss Shepherd since 2012. It is the same breed as Elfi, the dog owned by Laurent Boutonnat and his companion Ilona Orel. The other doggy is Yellow :-). The first time we could see her, it was in Mylène’s car when she arrived at the inauguration of the Cité du Cinéma by Luc Besson on September 21, 2012. For the anecdote, Liloup has his own … “shrink” for animals!

The show is much as usual promotes and confirmed the freshly released album but also gives a feeling of nostalgic feeling of wrapping up the long-standing successful career. It is a beautiful and timely celebration of 30 years on stage (to the year from the En Concert of 1989) All the hits were present.

Speaking of nostalgia, I have discovered really lovely review of the album Désobéissance on nostalgie.fr website: In ” Désobéissance “, Mylène Farmer’s style is always evolving.

Mylène Farmer is one of those artists who can be identified very quickly as soon as you hear a song. Whether through her lyrics or her tone of voice, she has created a real identity that greatly contributes to her success. However, it would be very reductive to present this artist in a uniform way. Indeed, one of Mylène Farmer’s great strengths is knowing how to evolve with the times and renew itself through each of her creations. The album “Disobedience” is no exception to this golden rule. It thus offers very successful evolutions of the “Mylène Farmer style”. Synthesizers are more discreet than in the past, while electro appears much more present.

Mylène Farmer is essentially a mysterious artist. Not only is she very rare in the media and refuses any nomination for musical awards, but she has created a universe filled with various codes. This is why when the photo of the album “Disobedience”, signed Jean-Baptiste Mondion, was unveiled, many people tried to decipher it. We see the artist seated on an Empire armchair with her foot resting on a skull, a symbol that is called vanity in art history and with which she likes to surround herself. It thus seems to dominate death itself and affirms a certain form of eternity. Besides the armchair, a sword and a Jupiterian eagle refer to the Napoleonic era and some do not hesitate to see in these symbols a kind of challenge to the Jupiterian power put forward by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron because of the title of the album which would incite to disobey the power in place. As for Mylène Farmer herself, she seems both domineering wearing her long leather boots, but also very seductive. A worked and accepted ambivalence that we find in many it’s shocking clips. But in the end, only the artist herself could explain any underlying messages, which she will be careful not to.

Two years after the release of her album “Disobedience”, Mylène Farmer is back in this long-awaited project for her fans: Amazon original “The Ultimate Creation”: https://vk.com/videos-4439870?z=video-4439870_456239306%2Fpl_-4439870_-2

Produced by Benoit Di Sabatino, The arrival of this program “was naturally the right time for [her]”, explains the artist. She also thinks of her admirers who follow her and support her since the start of her career, offering them a bit of her privacy, it’s a gift for these fans: “I wanted to fix on the film all the magic moments shared and to offer those who have followed me for a long time more intimate moments”.

In this film, Mylène Farmer gives pieces of herself and reveals herself. She confides in it her greatest fear: abandonment. “I surrender because I’m no longer afraid of being abandoned,” she says. This is probably my most intimate confession in this documentary. I felt confident enough with Mathieu [Spadaro, the director of the documentary] to agree to be followed so closely. “This fear of abandonment sends her” to a recurring nightmare. [She] arrives on stage and the room is empty. The visceral fear of abandonment has existed in [her] since [her] childhood. “

Faced with this fear, she lets go through the documentary. This film, she sees it as an “ultimate disobedience”. “A disobedience to myself, a desire to let go which is undoubtedly the fruit of time which inexorably passes”, she adds. This exposure was necessary according to her, because she wanted to be sincere and show herself without artifice. In life, Mylène Farmer is a shy person, hence the additional difficulty in revealing herself to her fans. In the interview granted to the “Parisian”, she returned to her “existential shyness”; “Someone close to me often says that I am the wolf, the one who lives in the depths of the woods, and when it’s time to take the stage, I become a werewolf.” But I am not aware of this double movement”.

She also spoke of her worst anxiety, that of illness. “The death of the people I love. It is the ultimate surrender. Animal suffering…”, she recounts. Then, in a more intimate way, she confided in her love situation: “I am celibate, I live with a Capuchin, who is not a monk but a little monkey”. Moreover, if she had not been an artist, Mylène Farmer admitted that she would have liked to be “both veterinarian and refuge”.

This event film will be the only one, so fans will have to take advantage of it because she assured it: “I will not do it again. (…) It’s a one-act play. ”

J'suis sentimentale
Dieu ce que je suis sans haine
J'suis sentimentale
J'suis sentimentale
Dieu ce que je suis sans haine
J'suis sentimentale
Dix, onze, douze, pourvu qu'elles soient douces
I'm sentimental
God what I am without hate
I'm sentimental
But there I see too much pain
There are flaws, sizes, I confess, I have a void below
And I'm gonna die, besides the rest I'm afraid of everything
I dare, I remain speechless
And there I, there I want to be
loved And when I see you
It's God who, it's God who sends you, I love you
I dare, I remain speechless
And there I, there I want to be
loved And when I see you
It's God who, it's God who sends you, I love you
Oh, how beautiful!
When it's seen, seen from above
Oh, it's beautiful!
When from the cradle to the tomb
I'm sentimental
God what I am without hate
I'm sentimental
But there I see too much pain
Yes, the loose soul wherever I go, fatal detail, I believe in life
Yes, the loose soul wherever I go, I cut myself, finished I wanna break free
I dare, I remain speechless
And there I, there I want to be
loved And when I see you
It's God who, it's God who sends you, I love you
I dare, I remain speechless
And there I, there I want to be
loved And when I see you
It's God who, it's God who sends you, I love you
I remain speechless
And there I have, there I want to be
loved And when I see you
It's God who, it's God who sends you, I love you
I remain speechless
And there I have, there I want to be
loved And when I see you
It's God who, it's God who sends you, I love you
One, two, three, I'm going to the woods
Four, five, six, pick cherries
Seven, eight, nine, in my basket nine
Ten, eleven, twelve, as long as they're sweet
