C’EST PAS MOI

C’est pas moi is a track # 4 from Mylène Farmer’s tenth studio album Interstellaires released on 6 November 2015.

It is the third and last single extracted.

The text of C’est pas moi was written by Mylène Farmer. The music was composed by Martin Kierszenbaum and Mylène Farmer.

Probable influence of Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche. When Mylène sings: “A yes / A no / A straight line”, the philosopher wrote in 1888 in Le twilight of the idols: “Formula of my happiness: a” yes “, a” no “, a straight line, a goal. ..”First off, Bravo Mylene for studding such a serious philosopher as Nietzsche. Secondly, if you are not so sure what this statement really means, here is a synopsis.

Happiness can only be achieved by knowing where you are going, having a direction set, because that is the only way you will ever be able to objectively improve your life. If you’re going in a circle rather than a straight line, it won’t matter which point you’re at or which direction you move, you’ll never get anywhere and no point on the circle is going to be “better” than any other one.

The direction lies in us, not in the outside world. We can claim to live “better” – that is: more comfortably – than people did a thousand years ago, but can we claim to be better people? What was that progress worth? Only by bettering ourselves can progress ever be made, and if we want to design products and technology that has any meaning, those things must support and further the goal of helping us move towards the good life, not merely a more comfortable or a more entertaining life.

And more so only by being truly aware of what you ARE (deep inside) and what you are NOT – you can move toward achieving your happiness (even if it goes against the common views on it). I think Mylene understood it very well – thus the title of the song.

Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (15 October 1844 – 25 August 1900) was a German philosopher, cultural critic, composer, poet, writer, and philologist whose work has exerted a profound influence on modern intellectual history. He began his career as a classical philologist before turning to philosophy.

He became the youngest person ever to hold the Chair of Classical Philology at the University of Basel in 1869 at the age of 24. Nietzsche resigned in 1879 due to health problems that plagued him most of his life; he completed much of his core writing in the following decade. In 1889, at age 44, he suffered a collapse and afterward a complete loss of his mental faculties. Less than a half of a century left before a rise of the Third Reich and Hitler’s “hard power” when Nietzsche wrote his prophetic work. Sadly, it ended up being the very much needed philosophical basis for Hitler to do his deeds. No wonder Nietzsche lost his mind. Perhaps, being a genius he knew a little bit too much…

It should be noted that Michel Onfay uses this formula in his book Cosmos in 2015. Mylène and Michel Onfray collaborated on the philosophical ocnte The Polar Star published on November 12, 2015.

June 14, 2016: Sending of the single to the radios. The promo cover is an unpublished drawing by Mylène using the character of Lisa.

June 14, 2016: Polydor announces this new single on twitter in an original way with the posting on Deezer of a playlist created by Mylène and revealing her musical universe.

June 30, 2016: A radio edit version of 3’18 therefore cut by 25 seconds compared to the album version is sent to the radio stations.

No physical promotional or commercial support known for the single C’est pas moi.

C’est pas moi becomes Mylène’s fourth single to receive no clip. The previous three are: On est tous des imbéciles (1985), L’histoire d’une fée, c’est… (2001) and Sextonik (2009),

“The non-fan: A song in which we learn that Mylène is “like a pencil without lead: a piece of wood “. Very well. And also that life without sex and without danger is worth nothing to her. Not the scoop of the century: by dint of proclaiming loud and clear “I, I am libertine, I am a whore”, the message has passed. Otherwise, musically, a little 80’s tune, soaring phrases that drag themselves Desireless way in Voyage Voyage.

The fan: It’s one of my favorite tracks from the album, with its little funk side. The comparison with Desireless seems far-fetched to me. On the other hand, the claimed anti-conformism is indeed a constant in the farmerian universe.
