Serais-tu là? (Would you be there?) is a song from Mylène Farmer’s fifth studio album Innamoramento released on 7 April 1999. It’s a song that Mylene wrote it in its entirety (both the text and the music)
The words of Serais-tu là? were written by Mylène Farmer. Music composed by Mylène Farmer. Arrangements and production: Laurent Boutonnat
The music is very much in Boutonaat style and I honestly would not know it was not him. Well done, Mylene!

Mylène was probably inspired by the reading of Paul Verlaine’s poem, Mon rêve familier (Poème saturniens, 1866) in which we can read the following lines: “I often have this strange and penetrating dream / Of an unknown woman, and that I love, and who loves me “while the second part of the second chorus of the song begins with these words:” When I have this strange dream, And when, penetrating your dreams “.

Looks like another album is completed and under the belt – Innamoramento.
Mylène writes all the texts again. A job that lasted nearly six months and which turned out to be more difficult than in the past.

“It took longer for me to write. I needed to take my time. There were things that probably needed to come out of me, so it’s a little longer, a little more painful sometimes. ” (Mylène Farmer – NRJ – 04/06/1999)

“On the previous album, I expressed softer, less violent things, I thought I was on the road to serenity. With Innamoramento , the last one, I realize strangely that I am rocking again towards the other world, other anxieties… Everything is done and undone inexorably .. ” (Mylène Farmer – ” Vogue “- September 1999)
It is one of Mylène’s albums richest in references.

Obviously, the essay by Francesco Alberoni, Le Choc d’amore, but also the book by Primo Levi, If it’s a man to which the title SOUVIENS-TOI DU JOUR refers or the Little Prince by Saint-Exupéry in the song DESSINE-MOI UN MOUTON.

Without forgetting the painter Egon Schiele with the title JE TE RENDS TON AMOUR, the film by David Lean, Ryan’s daughter cited in L’AMOUR NAISSANT

“Innamoramento expresses the shock of love. So, in this album, I tried to decline love in its broadest spectrum. I was also interested in this word because, inside, there is ‘love’, there is ‘death’, so many things that are part of the feeling of love.

Every word we keep
Every gesture we made,
Are so many tears,
That invite regret
"If I had known" is too late,
The jaw of a tombstone
The "I should have", derisory
Without voice, and there... I feel a little cold...
Each time I feel the stirring
If I had the faith of the world
In this second,
Would you be here?
If I had renounced the world
And nothing mattered
Would you be there?
If I had a choice: to die
To hear you live,
Would you be there?
If I had a choice: to suffer
Without even telling you,
Would you be there?
I would be there
And you in me
I would like to be Opium
Would make me hookah
Particle of Helium
Go up in smoke
When I have this strange dream,
And when, penetrating your dreams
I become scroll, angel dust
I dream, the fault is a poison that eats away
If I had the faith of the world
In this second,
Would you be here?
If I had renounced the world
And nothing mattered
Would you be there?
If I had a choice: to die
To hear you live,
Would you be there?
If I had a choice: to suffer
Without even telling you,
Would you be there?
I would be there
And you in me
And the soul
Has hurt
Stroll, that
And the soul
Hurts
Stroll that hurts
