Rolling Stone is a song from Mylène Farmer’s eleventh studio album, Désobéissance (2018). It is the first single from it.

Mylene warns us off the bet that she is in the “bad bad mood” but I am on the contrary feel my mood elevates as I listen to the song.

It is just super cool (as we say here in the US) Seriously, the whole thing: the rhythms (how cool are they!), the backup singing, and the whole techno thing going on, the production by Feder is just brilliant.

My feet are taking me to the dance mode no matter what I do: cooking around my kitchen table or working out! Its such a high energy piece!

The Rolling Stone music was composed by Feder with Johanna Iser, Peter Hoppe, Anastassia Zimmerman, Ashley Hicklin, Kimberley Sawford & Quentin Segaud. Feder is also responsible for the artistic production of the piece.

Long story short, no way I can relate to the “bad bad mood” here at all, and you? Thank you, Mylene! It is a nice treat for a change to be able to feel the electricity of the song in “major”. It reminds me of the Major Arcana if you’re familiar with the Tarot readings. This is definitely a Magician card which is marked by Number 1. Just like magic, the song marked a good year for Mylene, making it 16^th (!!!) Number 1 single.

Rolling Stone is the first title that Feder made for Mylène

The clip is directed by Carole Denis. This is the first time a woman has made a music video for the artist. This one was shot in Prague. (love that city!) It is the video I can watch over and over! Its so classy and elegant – I struggle to find the words! Mylene is just too cool in it.

It starts off magically and very Gothically with her wearing a sorcerer overcoat (I am in love right there! I love this coat and I want this coat! Watch out Mylene, I’ll steal the coat -Lol)

It’s reminiscent of the epic Keanu Reeves Matrix look. I am all eyes.

Wolf of course reaffirms my familiarity of Mylene – I am ready for more! As she walks her catwalk through the couples in love: there are girls couple sweet and deeply connected, there are couples arguing and making up and there are couple just silently holding hands. It is all very romantic and has no touch of darkness even if the video shot at night and at the dim hallways. It all adds a perfect mystique to the mix. What a “cocktails la pour m’apaiser”.

It is all once more about the Love. And I am with her walking my own endless corridors of life watching others falling in love, being in love, whatever kind of love it might be. By the way, why don’t we ever see the male couples? Not in any of her videos – strange, especially considering her reputation as a gay icon. I am at loss here, any ideas?

I am like Mylene, sometimes watch old couples in love and my heart fills with the warmth and hope that someday it will be me. Isn’t that the elderly age we all are hoping for? My Beloved with me and it is all it is. All …I need is love. Maybe it is the true magic as we know it.

But what about Mylene? Why is she the rolling stone again and again? Is it because when the magic fades, all you have left is wishing upon the stars siting lonely on the car hood? With so much love around, why the loneliness is the only companion that won’t leave. What is she saying?

There are symbolical empty TV screens and dried out roses, there are dividing lines of fire and her signature “Et c’est chaud, chaud” . It seems to follow me since the Au bout de la nuit. Only now in my 50s it might as well be the menopausal hot flashes (haha). The comforting thought is Mylene and I are in the same decade 😊

I used to call myself a T-fal as in my 30s as nobody would stick. I was a rolling stone for a good stretch of time. Looking back, perhaps deep down I wasn’t ready to let anyone stick. I treasured my freedom too much and for that I totally get the inner conflict. You crave the perfect magical love which feeds you soul, inspiration and makes you higher than any drugs known to humans. But then it becomes too suffocating and too demanding, and you just want to end it “c’est fini”.

And a circle keeps going. You make your (lonely) bed – you sleep on it.

There is no perfect love I guess, there are just some people who are perfect for each other with all their flows and imperfections. It’s the finding that very special fit requires some divine magic.

I believe in the soul mates. I am a dreamer and a poet. I believe that there are souls who are meant to meet in the earthy life just to make a big splash, big fireworks, the Grand Amour as we know it. Maybe Mylene is still waiting knowing deep down that until she finds that perfect one for her, she’ll keep rolling through?

The single was available at midnight January 19, 2018 for streaming and for legal download (it was even available from 11 p.m. the day before on Apple Music and iTunes).

The title is number 1 on iTunes France one hour after it was put online. 550 copies are sold in one hour (between 11 p.m. and midnight on Thursday 01/18).
It is also offered on the YouTube channel MyleneFarmerVevo. It ranks No. 1 in trends on the site and has accumulated 150,000 views in 24 hours.
The radios begin broadcasts in the morning from 6 a.m.
We learn via an article from the site lepoint.fr that the clip was made in Prague (January 15 & 16 according to rumors) and that Mylène entrusted the production to a woman for the first time.

The May 13, 2018, the singer performed Rolling Stone at the finale of The Voice. The word “Desobeissance ” is sewn into their backs, leaving audiences to speculate that this is the album’s title.

The June 8, 2018, during the show The Song of the Year, she performs the song for the second time on television in a similar choreography. The words sewn on their backs are this time “N’oublie pas”, title of the second single from the album. Brilliant promotional technique, wouldn’t you agree?
