Le tour 89 est un enjeu énorme pour Mylène qui en a pleinement conscience puisqu’elle déclarait quelques semaines plus tôt « Sans rien dramatiser, je joue ma vie ».
Et Mylène sortira de cette journée en vie, mais surtout grandi ! Dans la bouche de ceux qui l’ont accompagnée sur ce premier Marathon, ce ne sont que souvenirs émus. Admiratifs ou élogieux. « à Saint-Etienne, se remémore Jean Philippe Aubin, Jacques Rouveyrollis [lumières] et moi, on la regardait et il me disait «On a une bombe là ! »

Beaucoup ce moquaient d’elle, disant qu’elle n’avait pas de voix, qu’elle allait se planter sur scène. Certains ont pris ça à la rigolade, mais nous, on l’a vue travailler,
et on a su qu’elle allait laminer tout le monde ! Personne n’avait fait ça, en France, au niveau scénique : changer de costume à chaque chanson, avec une mise en scène différente à chaque titre…

je l’ai vraiment découverte pendant cette tournée. C’était et c’est une artiste hors-norme. Même aux USA, vous n’aviez pas d’artistes qui chantaient vraiment en live Parceque danser en même temps, ça peut poser des problèmes techniques et de souffle. Mylène, elle, chantait en dansant. »
