Appelle mon numero  is a song from Mylène Farmer’s seventh studio album, Point de Suture (2008). It is the second single from it. Lyrics are by Mylene Farmer, music (as expected) by Laurent Boutonnat although its been noted Mylene was taking an active part in the music composition.

I swear, I was looking forward to writing about this like a kid looking forward to the luscious dessert. This song is not only the music to my ears (which God know it is) it is also a sweetest eye candy one can ever have. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this clip. I LOVE everything about it! Did I mention I just LOVE Mylene in it? 😊 OK OK….I think you got the point!

So…I was thinking by watching her adorable facial expressions in the video: what a beautiful creation She is! Mylene is such a photogenic human that I never get tired of seeing her portraits or videos. Plus, she is always different. Like looking into the kaleidoscope, isn’t it? There is never the same face, mood, feel, message…

But as I was admiring her, I thought of all of us who is not out there on the TV screen or a magazine cover, but we all ARE no less beautiful in our own unique way. We all ARE have so much in us to be admired and to be amazed by….if we’d only took the time…and maybe really SEEING the one in the mirror with all the love and appreciation!? 💗

I have heard (I am sure you did too) Mylene hates the mirrors and growing up thought of herself as unattractive (!!) Can you believe it? I don’t know if she has mirrors in her house now (I hope she loves what she sees in her reflection as much as we all do) but it is really sad that we are so often incapable of seeing our OWN Beauty. Sometimes I hug my daughter and tell her she is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen but she just shrugs her shoulders and looks at me in disbelief 😊

But my babies are beautiful. Look at them! (of course, they are older now and don’t want me to post their photos) lol

Perhaps, until someone who loves us and who we love reminds us about how precious, incredibly beautiful inside and out we are, we just don’t have a clue? Maybe, we owe it to each other?…so let’s remind as often as we can and as lovingly as we can how special our loved ones are.

Mylene does it all the time…it’s the thing about her. No matter how grand her performance might be, no matter how perfect her photos turn out, it is never about HER…how does she do it? It is always about us…it is to please US, it Is to entertain US, it is to wake US up, it is to make US feel…It is all about giving…all of her…all the time…. What are we giving back?

Anyways, “Appelle mon numéro” (English: “Call/dial My Number”) is a sweetest most sex-appealing clip of Mylene in my opinion and I like it even slightly more (although it’s a tie) then L’amour n’est rien.

The reasons are many, I think Mylene is glowing in this video no less than in the L’amour…Its just a bit different glow. Its classier although she is undeniably a seductress / sex kitten in this clip as she is in the one before…Every frame is incredibly well composed: colors, the movement, the bed and Mylene in the cutest outfits depending on the seasons portrayed in the close-up shot. It is just a perfection!

The playful mood is over the roof! She is as flirty as she being undoubtfully seen through the loving eyes…of Benoît Di Sabatino who has directed the video

As you’d know me by now (yeah! this is a chapter 30 already!) you know I will pick up on every little detail, nuance or hint…The devil is in the details they say (I bet Mylene would love that!), for instance “Entre dans le noir” (Enter the darkness) phrase…seems to be pretty innocent on its on especially rhymed with “histoire” and perhaps with the touch of metaphysics, however Mylene won’t stop there with her one track mind (haha) she takes you straight to the “pillow” for you to get lost in your imagination (as always).

Its erotic and its not for the average minds unless of course they are a bit dirty… 🙂

There are many interpretations are around explaining the meaning of the text: from dedication to Laurent Boutonnat to admitting sex addiction…well I am sure Mylene has a good laugh about most of them. So perhaps sometimes we should just focus beyond the words into the sensuality.

This clip she reminds me of classic French films from the 60s where it is all about the faces, hair, outfits and the music! Ahh…my heart is singing along (ha ha) but for real…I am melting into the warm spring just by watching her smile, her flirty eyes, her movements as if she is as an animated painting or a sculpture. She is a sweetest dream that has came true. I don’t mind to hang out in such a dream…

I think Benoît Di Sabatino did an incredible job with both of those videos. They are therefore one of a kind. They are a love letter to Mylene, they are a poetry transformed into cinema…they are unforgettable. I hope you agree. By the way Brigitte Gautier (Mylene sister) participated in the creation of the video along with Benoit – it is her feet you see 🙂

I like the allegories of the seasons, her shoemaker image is just so precious I cant even describe…and did you notice a hole on her big toe in one of the scenes where she is wearing one big black shoe…what a tease! hard to fill in those shoes – its for sure.. You just don’t know what to do with her: kiss her or spank her for being so naughty:-)

“Appelle mon numéro” (English: “Call/dial My Number”) was released on 3 November 2008, it was the second single from her seventh studio album, Point de Suture. It received generally positive reviews from critics and was more aired on radio and television than Farmer’s previous single, “Dégénération“. No wonder!!

In France, the single allowed Farmer to establish a new record: to obtain a sixth number-one hit.

A promotional format of “Appelle mon numéro” was sent to the radio stations on the 12^th of September 2008 and began to broadcast the radio edit version. What a lovely 47th Birthday gift to her! But c’mon! Does she look 47 to you? I think she’s got the youth elixir and the time has no power over her. (at least I hope so!)

On October 9 Cede.ch site announced the date of release – 3 November 2008 – and two formats that would be available – two CD maxi. Two days later, Amazon.fr and Alapage.com revealed other two formats: a CD single, a digipack CD maxi and a vinyl. The cover art of the CD maxi was shown on 19 October 2008, and those of the CD single on 21 October.

This “pop ballad” uses an acoustic guitar. The psychologist Hugues Royer said: “the song is naughty and speaks of love on the phone” Did he mean the phone sex? Hmmm..I guess it’s a possibility…why not?

I am hearing Blondie’s “Call me” as an inspiration… Do you?

On 8 October, some media revealed that the music video was shot on 4 and 5 October in the studios of Saint-Ouen, Seine-Saint-Denis, France. This video was scheduled to be broadcast on television on 22 October but, according to Polydor, it could be delayed on 29 October if the assembly is not finished. It was directed by Benoît Di Sabatino, the singer’s companion, who had also produced the music videos for “C’est une belle journée“, “L’amour n’est rien...” and “Drôle de creepie” (for Lisa, Mylene niece ).

The first images were shown on the Internet on 17 October 2008  and the full video was eventually available on the Internet and on television on 22 October. It was elected “Video of the month” of November 2008 on the radio Radio Jeunes Reims. On 17 November 2008, the video was available digitally on the official sites of download.

The video has no screenplay and uses the radio edit version of the song. In it, the singer is lying on a huge white bed, while four way of colors illustrating the four seasons are shown (dead leaves, rain, snow, sun). In each of them, Farmer wears different clothes, and has successively in her hands a crystal ball (although tinted), a pillow (with the same “IY / H” letters in the stitching as it is in the Dégénération video. It is a Hebrew alliteration of a sacred name of our Creator/God which is not allowed to be pronounced but only represented. Mylene opens a cover into her deeply rooted spirituality just enough to pick our lustful interest, just enough to invite to follow her further…and “IY / H” knows – I am following.🧡

Di you notice the telephone (the old-fashioned kind I have actually used!),a shoe that she repairs (is it about the “other” shoe? isn’t it?) while wearing round Harry Potter like cutest glasses and an umbrella which gives such a strong French retro movies vibe (remember, how the most important dramatic scenes are always in the rain?). The video ends in the same way it began, i.e. showing the singer being asleep. Maybe it was just a dream?

The video was generally well received by the media.

Virgin site said the clip is “fresh and colorful” and expresses “the naughty and the childhood side of the artist”.

According to Obiwi, the video is “sweet and paradisiac” and “we would believe it was taken from a fairy’s tale”.

For Musique.evous, Farmer seems surprisingly “happy” in this video which “shows the red icon in a new light”.

However, Plurielles said the video, “full of thoughtlessness”, was not appreciated by all the singer’s fans, adding that it shows Farmer “as a child woman, a little candid”. However, the video was diversely appreciated by the singers’ fans: some of them liked the freshness, the colors and the fact that Farmer was smiling in the video, others considered that there was a lack of inspiration. (ahh, they are just jealous of her happiness! 😊)

On 8 November 2008, the single entered the French Singles Chart at number one, selling 16,236 units, thus becoming Farmer’s sixth number-one single in France, which was at the time the new record for an artist on the SNEP Singles Chart. It totaled five weeks in the top ten, 21 weeks in the top 50 and 36 weeks in the top 100. “Appelle mon numéro” also entered the digital chart at number 22 on 8 November 2008, then dropped and fell off the top 50 after eight weeks.

The song was much aired in Ukraine, Lithuania and Russia, reaching number 16 in Moscow and 19 in St. Petersburg in 2008 and 2009, and hit number 98 in the whole country in 2010. I think it is because it is in a good way stereotypically “French” or whatever are the Russians expect the “French” to be.

The song was actively promoted on TF1: two advertisements, respectively of 20 and 30 seconds, were broadcast from the late October to the early November, then a 1:30 teaser in early December 2008. Mylène Farmer performed the song in lip sync on 13 December 2008, on France 2, on the TV show Ça ne finira jamais, devoted to Johnny Hallyday.
A beautiful sequence directed by François Hanss featuring Mylène in a New York hotel room (although the shooting took place in a studio near Paris).

By the way did you notice the number on the room? (and I did! 🙂 ). I wonder if it has a special significance to Mylene?

On this occasion, the singer was sitting near a window and was dressed as on the single cover, plus few rings with skulls at her fingers which we see quite often lately.

The song was also performed during the 2009 tour: at this point, Farmer wore a glittering short dress with red cape with hood and the stage became pink. The introduction being very different from the album version, the first notes of the song are almost unrecognizable.

This performance is just so beautiful! Mylene looks incredible and her entire demeanor is oozing with elegance, grace and sex appeal. In short, she looks like a million bucks! 🙂 Its a perfection! If I’d have a time machine – this is a tour I wish to see in person.

If we refer to a photo of the rehearsals of the Tour 2009 on Appelle mon numero , it was planned for Mylène to do a little choreography with one of the dancers. In the end, Mylène will do a few dance steps mainly on the bridge of the song with her backup singers – which was also super charming.
