“My life is very monotonous,” the fox said. “I hunt chickens; men hunt me. All the chickens are just alike, and all the men are just alike. And, in consequence, I am a little bored.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry The Little Prince
My dear fan friends,
thank you for participating in Round 5 of the MF FAN GAMES 2021. I hope you had fun!
A special BRAVO to Séverine who, once again, was the first to submit the correct answer. Thanks and welcome to our new players – Bénédicte, Isabel Gregori and Michael Alzina for sharing the answers with all of us! BRAVO to you all – great game! You all submitted correct answers! You made Mylene and her community of fans very proud!
It is absolutely verified by Mylene that she was inspired by the book The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, published in 1943, in which one could read: “The first night, I fell asleep on the sand, a thousand leagues from any inhabited land. I was more isolated than a castaway on a raft in the middle of the ocean. So you can imagine my surprise, at daybreak, when a funny little voice woke me up. It said, “Please…draw me a sheep.”
That’s how Dessine-moi un mouton song came about as number 4 track from the album Innamoramento released on 7 April 1999 ( 55 years after y Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, death).

Quelle solitude

It is clear that Mylene was inspired by the classic story which is full of philosophical metaphors and beautiful allegories. By far the best book of its genre and my very favorite as I am sure as it is yours. No wonder, this song comes very close to the tribute to the book and its author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry as you have pointed out – my dear friends!
“Où sont les hommes ?’ reprit enfin le petit prince. ‘On est un peu seul dans le désert.’
‘On est seul aussi chez les hommes’, dit le serpent.
“Where are the people?” resumed the little prince at last. “It’s a little lonely in the desert…”
“It is lonely when you’re among people, too,” said the snake.
This wonderful book was first published in English and French in the US by Reynal & Hitchcock in April 1943 (New York based publishing company) as Saint-Exupéry’s works had been banned by the Vichy Regime.

The first French edition of The Little Prince published in Paris by Gallimard.
Although the printing had been completed by 30 November 1945 and the book should have been available for Christmas, the first French edition was only released in France in April 1946. The Little Prince was thus published posthumously in France, exactly three years after the American edition.
The good news is Saint-Exupéry did see his book published with his original drawings prior to his untimely death in July 1944 in age of 44.

But its the other drawings : now by our beloved Mylene made a connection (indirectly but clearly) to another song and especially another clip C’est une belle journée (click on the title to launch a page)

This adorable sheep comes to life thanks to the remarkable work of Mylene and Benoît Di Sabatino. It immediately makes you think of an innocent request by the Little Prince “draw me a sheep” and so she did! 🙂 “All grown-ups were once children… but only few of them remember it.” Thankfully, Mylene is willing to take the journey back and take us with her…Thank you, Mylene!
But it is not the end of the story yet…are you ready for one more surprising connection? (at least I was surprised when found out and I even gave you a clue by placing this photo on the page with the initial challenge)

Reference confirmed by John Nollet, creator of Mylène’s hairstyle for the concerts Before the shadow … at Bercy (and many other occasions):

“ Mylène wanted me to create a new image for her, a new head, she wanted us to see her differently. So there was a whole process of creation. I started with the Little Prince and Mylène adhered to this idea. ” ( MF & Vous – 2006 )

Mylène Farmer Concerts Before the shadow … Did you know? 🙂
And finally, one more observation which I am sure nothing new for you, dear fans of Mylene, no matter how much you might be amazed by the surface which Mylene offers so generously, it is nothing in comparison to all that about her which can be visible only with the heart. This saying applies to every and each of us. I hope your heart is open enough to see the real beauty around you. ❤
