N’AIE PLUS D’AMERTUME

N’AIE PLUS D’AMERTUME Mylene Farmer

N’aie plus d’amertume (No more bitterness) is a song # 4 from the album Bleu Noir released 6 December 2010

Lyrics: Mylène Farmer. Music composed by Moby (like 4 others from Bleu Noir)

The text of the song No more bitterness which seems to be addressed to a woman close to the artist. Some even think it could be dedicated to Mylène’s sister, Brigitte Gautier.

Brigitte was born May 5th 1959 – she is only two years older than Mylene. Tiny difference in the bigger picture of life.

Brigitte Gautier worked at TF1 in the 90s, then was assistant to Nathalie Boutot, Patrick Sébastien’s wife for Magic TV, his production company. It is thus credited as such in many credits of Patrick Sébastien programs and projects.

Mylene actually used some help from her sister for creations of a few of her projects

  1. Brigitte Gautier is a creator of the cover for the album “RemixeS” (2003).

2. Brigitte Gautier is an assistant to Mylène on the album “Avant que l’ombre…” (2005)

3. (Brigitte Gautier (my favorite) is hidden under a sheet to take the place of MF’s feet (the ones with a ripped toe and one boot) in the clip “APPELLE MON NUMERO” (2008)

I would imagine, being Mylene’s sister is a very challenging role in life. Being in the such a gigantic shadow and not being bitter is a quest not many can handle.  Not much known about her personal life but like many of us Brigitte lives an ordinary life. According to some verified sources she lived in Paris in a small 2 room apartment in the 11th arrondissement. I hope they manage to keep a good relationship between them – that’s my biggest wish for those women brought together by family ties and yet separated by different life’s missions.

Another possible influence on the lyrics is Pierre Reverdy and his poem Always the only one from the collection Poèmes en prose (1915): “I preferred the sharper corner of this room to be alone; and the window opposite opened.” (…) “We are afraid of all the screams; the chimneys are going out. It is so dark.” Mylène writes: “You prefer sharper angles / From a destiny that seems lost” (…) “But it’s so dark / Turn away from me”

N’aie plus d’amertume (like all of Moby’s songs on the Bleu Noir album) was made from a model sent by Moby to Mylène. All the instruments on the model are played by Moby himself.

The title of Moby’s mockup for this song was: Frame W Emily. Production: Moby & Mylène Farmer Piano, Wurlitzer, Hammond organ, artistic collaboration: Yvan Cassar

“Moby seems to have captured the subtlety of the artist’s words (and ailments): No more bitterness is a marvel.” (France Soir – 12/06/2010)

“Some may remember that Mylène and Moby had already signed a duet in 2006 Slipping away (Crier la vie), on the best-of of the American. A collaboration that many were quick to qualify as a marketing operation when it now looks more like the beginnings of a musical encounter. We will also appreciate the accuracy of the compositions offered for the occasion: Do not have any more bitterness by going through Bleu noir, M’effondre or even Inseparables which closes the album, the titles signed by Moby are those which easily convince, impose themselves quite naturally. ” (What Hifi – January 2011)

“It is rather the titles of Moby which disappoint: the title song misses the mark with its dated production, while the piano-to-number supports without subtlety the dubious words whispered on No more bitterness.” (Sorstu .ca – 01/12/2011)

Dans ma mémoire qui dérape
Gardera le dur de l'asphalte
Tu préfères les angles plus aigus
D'un destin qui semble perdu

N'aie plus d'amertume
Et parle à la lune
Tu n'as pas le choix
C'est peut être moi
Si je n'ai pas su taire
Tes mots de colère
Je m'en veux tu vois
Te donne ma foi

N'aie plus d'amertume
Et parle à la lune
Dis-lui toi que l'âme
Parfois se fait mal
Mais il fait si noir
Détourne-toi de moi
Tu l'as fait déjà
Tu l'as fait déjà

Je te vois
Ça te fait quoi ?
Quand je te vois
Ça me fait ça

Et quand la danse cessera
Que jaillisse encore ta voix
Mais dieu que tu sembles si lasse
Viens t'asseoir à côté de moi
Et passe

N'aie plus d'amertume
Et parle à la lune
Tu n'as pas le choix
C'est peut être moi
Si je n'ai pas su taire
Tes mots de colère
Je m'en veux tu vois
Te donne ma foi

N'aie plus d'amertume
Et parle à la lune
Dis-lui toi que l'homme
Parfois se désole
Mais il fait si noir
Détourne-toi de moi
Tu l'as fait déjà
Tu l'as fait déjà
In my memory that slips
Will keep the hardness of the asphalt
You prefer the sharper angles
Of a destiny that seems lost

Don't be bitter anymore
And talk to the moon
You don't have a choice
Maybe it's me
If I didn't know how to keep my mouth shut
Your angry words
I blame myself you see
Give you my faith

Don't be bitter anymore
And talk to the moon
Tell her that the soul
Sometimes it hurts
But it's so dark
Turn away from me
You've done it before
You've done it before

I see you
How does it feel?
When I see you
It does this to me

And when the dance stops
May your voice still be heard
But god you look so tired
Come and sit next to me
And pass by

Don't be bitter anymore
And talk to the moon
You have no choice
Maybe it's me
If I didn't know how to keep my mouth shut
Your angry words
I blame myself you see
Give you my faith

Don't be bitter anymore
And talk to the moon
Tell her that man
Sometimes desolate
But it's so dark
Turn away from me
You've done it before
You've done it before
