FIFTH TOP SONG of JUNE 2022
Diabolique mon ange is a song from Mylène Farmer’s eighth studio album, Bleu Noir (2010). It was chosen to become the first (and only) single taken from the 2013 live album Timeless.
What a gorgeous song! It runs so powerfully in the lower than usually register as it touches so deeply!!! I swear, my heart is flickering inside when I hear it, it is just divine….a love song out of this world.
Mylene is so mature and delivers an incredible “chanson” in the best of its term. It’s modern, it has tons of cool sounds, electronic, guitar, fully developed keys and rhythms. Its not Boutonnat and I kinda like that! Its different, it gives us a glimpse into a different layer of Mylene…And I, ladies and gentlemen, love this intensity! The music was composed by Darius Keeler. He is a founder and main songwriter of the British band Archive. Mylene works with him again for her upcoming album (#12). I am excited to see what will come out of this collaboration.

FORTH TOP SONG of JUNE 2022
Dans les rues de Londres is a track # 3 from Mylène Farmer’s sixth studio album, Avant que l’ombre… released on 4 April 2005.
The lyrics to Dans les rues de Londres were written by Mylène Farmer.
For the whole text of this song, Mylène could have been inspired by Mrs. Dalloway, the novel by Virginia Woolf published in 1925 which describes the journey of an elegant woman in the streets of London, her encounters and her reflections on life, love and death. Reference also to the life of the author and her tragic destiny since she ended her life by drowning herself in the river.
The song was performed live in 2006 Bercy concert. And what a beautiful performance was that! The song followed sing-along of XXL. and before CALIFORNIA. The arrangements are tasteful and make the melody shine like a precious stone framed by a skillful master. Intro is very ethnic almost Buddhistic and transitions into a familiar version very naturally.
In short, a beautiful piece and I would love to see it again in NEVERMORE 2023. How about you?

THIRD TOP SONG of JUNE 2022
Derrière les fenêtres is a song # 7 from the sixth album Avant que l’ombre… released on 4 April 2005. And it is a such a beautiful and melancholic song although it is a bit of an “orphan”.
Lyrics of Mylène Farmer. Those are hard to understand, the text seems to be a tribute to unknown people who remain in the shadows. I am sure there is much more to the story as any Mylene’s songs but I will stay hopeful that one day I will be able to know more…
For this text, I could trace back to the title of the novel by Nathalie Rheims (who is a close friend of Mylène for many years) published in 2003: “Lumière invisible à mes yeux’”. Could she inspire Mylène for the first verse:
La lumière est invisible
A nos yeux
C’est ce qu’ils disent en silence
Quand ils sont deux…
Music composed, produced, programming, keyboards and arrangements, percussions and xylophone: Laurent Boutonnat. Derrière les fenêtres has never been performed in concert.
SECOND TOP SONG of JUNE 2022
Mylene performed California in all of the tours except Timeless. It is one of the most beloved live songs during any tour. Mylene always manages to deliver a new arrangement and new visualization of the song. Its hard to find the best as they all are well done. What is your favorite? TOP SONG of JUNE 2022
WOW ladies and gentlemen, by some cosmic coincidence our top song of the month is again from the album Point de Suture released in 2008. Degeneration is the first single from it.
“I especially have the feeling that the new generation of today is in a world of ultra-violence and that it is a very, very difficult world. Is it a “degeneration”, I don’t know. I also had a little fun, in all humility, with the word “degeneration” since there had been “disenchanted generation “- Mylene Farmer said in the interview for TF1 in August 31, 2008.
The incredible video was shot by the talented Bruno Aveillan. later created DÉSOBÉISSANCE and STOLEN CAR. This clip shot in Prague is part of the great Farmerian tradition and reconnects with the cinematographic genre of its beginnings. Mylène Farmer plays the role of a character with exceptional powers… just like her musical career.
The Degeneration clip seems to be inspired by this 1978 thriller called Coma (hint to the lyrics). Director: Michael Crichton.

It didn’t occur to me until now but could the inspiration also come from the film Talk to Her (Spanish: Hable con ella) is a 2002 Spanish drama written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar. The film follows two men who form an unlikely friendship as they care for two women who are both in comas. ( aka “sexy coma”)
Mylène performs Degeneration at all indoor concerts and then in stadiums of the 2009 Tour from May 2 to September 19, 2009. And what a gorgeous performance it is!
